New report: Up to 10 million tonnes extra biomass
Denmark can increase its biomass production by 8 million tonnes and reduce the environmental impact at the same time. This is the perhaps surprising conclusion in a new scientific report by researchers from Copenhagen and Aarhus Universities.
Director Anne Grete Holmsgaard is pleased by the conclusions in the report called 'The plus 10 Million Tonnes Plan':
- The scientists have now documented that we can retreive more biomass from agriculture and forestry and at the same time get a better environment. A very positive result, she says.
Together with the strategy of BioRefining Alliance this report is a good starting point for concrete political initiatives:
-It means that we have enough raw material to make biorefining a new area for green growth. From this we create jobs in Denmark and increase export, Anne Grete Holmgaard says.
